EBRU X EDWARD VAN VLIET
Edward van Vliet views design as a journey between dreams and reality. Before founding his own studio in 1990, he refined his skills at the Design Academy Eindhoven and the HKU School of Arts, studying architecture, interior and industrial design. Considered a leading figure in Dutch design, he blurs aesthetic boundaries by blending diverse cultural influences.
His portfolio spans architecture, interiors, furniture, lighting, textiles and lifestyle design. On his studio website he describes himself as a visionary “total concept designer” whose work draws on the rich cultural and natural tapestry of the world: he weaves colours, textures, patterns and forms into new worlds with deep respect for local context.
In his studio he brings this vision to life through a dynamic interplay of nine signature design keys and seven unique strategic deliverables, creating spaces that inspire and innovate.
Van Vliet describes his work as creating “a world within a world”; for him, elegance is about ambience—setting the stage so people feel immersed in an atmosphere made personal through distinctive combinations of colours, patterns, shapes, materials, emotions and origins.
Van Vliet translated this approach into the Gemstone Collection for EBRU. Inspired by the natural beauty and colours of gemstones, the series encompasses a range of carpets produced from different materials and techniques to showcase EBRU’s craftsmanship. Each rug blends organic motifs with Van Vliet’s characteristic layering to deliver a refined, nature‑inspired elegance. New designs will be unveiled throughout 2026 and will be shown at the EBRU showroom in the ETC Design Center in Culemborg, where visitors can experience the latest designs, feel the fine materials and explore the collection’s versatility.
All Gemstone carpets are suitable for hospitality, commercial and residential spaces. They can be custom‑made in any shape or size and are available both as standalone rugs and as wall‑to‑wall installations, ensuring a bespoke solution for any project.
